2017: Nicki McLean

Lincolnshire based Carver & Willow Weaver

Unfortunately, due to personal reasons Nicki has had to withdraw from our autumn Exhibition and Market. We really admire Nicki’s work and enjoyed exhibiting with her at our June Artists Market. Perhaps we will have the opportunity to work with her again in future.

I have explored and pursued my creative instinct throughout my life by painting, carving and sculpture.

Initially I studied Interior Design (BA Hons) through which I discovered my ‘eye’ for form and design. Later, whilst raising my family, I realised my dream of achieving a Fine Art Degree through Anglia Ruskin University.

Deeply affected by earth, sky and spirit, my work visualises an ancestral narrative.

Discovering willow weaving was for me a connection with our ancient land, its wonderful how the the willow sculptures emerge from my hands and still have movement upon completion.

My largest piece to date is a twelve foot standing man, commissioned by Lincoln County Council sited at Tupholme Abbey.

I have been privileged to work at Glastonbury Festival with Glennie Kindred, author and illustrator. We created a peaceful ‘Earth’ garden with a magical essence. In willow I interpreted her triple spiral archway drawing, with crows sitting on top of it, hares leaping off, and a willow dolmen in the circular space of the garden.

I have exhibited in Stamford with Art On the Map, about 8 years ago. I also currently have a body of work on the walls in the Cellar Bar.
