Lincolnshire based Sculptural Ceramic Artists

Maggie & Tracy are participating in ESC Artists Stamford Arts Centre Autumn Exhibition in the Gallery, 25 October – 5 November, and Artists Markets in the Ballroom on 11 June & 5 November 2017

Zoo Ceramics is a partnership of two sculptural ceramic artists Maggie Betley and Tracy Wright, who set up a studio together in 1988 after finishing degrees in art and design at Bretton Hall College. Together they create a range of animal related gift-ware and sculpture and individually they design their own unique pieces.

Zoo Ceramics spent many years exhibiting at large art and pottery shows around the country and took part in numerous trade shows until their designs featured in over a hundred shops and galleries. Now they are exploring the cyber world through three on-line galleries that sell their work all over the world. They run a popular programme of pottery classes from their studio in Waddington village and design large scale tile commissions.

Maggie creates a stunning collection of wildlife transformed into decorative and functional vessels.
Tracy is fascinated by birds, cats and rodents and often incorporates a humourous or hidden element to a piece of work.

Maggie Betley…
Maggie creates a bold range of large decorated hares and animal headed pots. Maggie’s carved animals appear life like as well as being almost life size. Many have intricate patterns incised on the reverse of the piece, enabling them to be displayed in a versatile way. They can be used to hold flowers, plants, candles and adapted as lighting features. Her popular themes include the large corn and daisy hares and zebra, tiger and lion pots.

Tracy Wright…
Tracy designs birds, cats and rodents capturing the creatures particular nuance or expression. Amusing penguins with entertaining feet are contrasted dramatically with the brooding, spiky necked vultures and bemused dodo. Tracy coils and carves her designs and often incorporates a humorous or hidden element to a piece of work. The large owls have a secret mouse peeping out from the landscaped base and the cats have a robin companion perched on their heads, the crows wear costumes and the dodo is often ridden by a girl called Alice.
