Botanical Seaweed Art

Angela Coupe from Botanical Seaweed Art is exhibiting with us at Vitamin Sea, an Escape the Ordinary Exhibition at Allman Gallery, Victoria Hall Oakham, LE15 6AH from 13 – 19 March 2023.

Botanical Seaweed Art and Crafts are created and inspired from foraged, natural seaweed and coastal treasures found on UK beaches. Seaweed or Ocean Flowers as l like to call them are not only things of beauty they are also incredibly important to the environment and with this in mind l sustainably forage specimens by only collecting seaweed that has been discarded by the sea.

In Victorian times pressing seaweed was thought of as a gentile pastime for Victorian ladies to do and it has been said that Queen Victoria spent time collecting seaweed and displaying specimens in her scrapbook. Gyotaku the ancient Japanese Art of fish rubbing is a recent addition to my Seaweed Art as l was not content with just pressing seaweed l now spend hours pressing fish!
